Bordeaux-based Cdiscount launches a platform for the sale of objects between individuals

The French leader in e-commerce, headquartered in Bordeaux, is rolling out a new peer-to-peer sales activity on December 9: Cdiscount Occasion. The company offers its 10 million customers a second life for products they no longer use

The economic crisis linked to Covid-19 will undoubtedly boost the second-hand market in many sectors of activity.

Bordelais Cdiscount, the French number one in e-commerce and a subsidiary of the Casino group, has understood this. It takes advantage of its strike force – nearly 2,000 employees, a business volume of 4 billion euros, a marketplace of 12,000 partner merchants – to get started with Cdiscount Occasion.

A catalog of very diverse used products

Cdiscount now offers its 10 million customers the possibility of reselling and buying items in a simple and secure manner. A platform developed in collaboration with a French start-up, Place2Swap.

With just a few clicks, customers will be able to sell items they no longer use and discover a catalog of second-hand products covering all categories of products under 30 kg: high-tech, video games, toys, fashion, DIY, books or even decoration. This morning, nearly 1,800 offers were available.

The customer, whether seller or buyer, can drop off or pick up his parcel at one of the 9,000 relay points of his partner, Mondial Relay. To differentiate yourself from the competition.

Transactions are made online through a virtual wallet system that secures the sale for both seller and buyer.

Being connected with new consumption patterns

“This platform constitutes a major pillar in our approach to support the French in their new consumption patterns, which are part of both an economic and ecological rationale. Cdiscount Occasion is a new illustration of our commitment to a model responsible digital technology ”, highlights the CEO of Cdiscount, Emmanuel Grenier.

Booming today, the second-hand market is estimated at 7 billion euros, half of which is driven by online platforms.

But the competition is fierce with, in particular or sites like the Bordeaux company BackMarket.
